The walkers who signed up for the event with Age UK Lancashire started bright and early on Saturday morning and faced difficult weather conditions throughout the day, with some sections being driven with poor visibility due to the ever-changing conditions.

Sharon Watson of Age UK Lancashire said, “I was there to support that day and the walkers did really well. I think some wanted to get back to the England game in time, which gave them extra motivation to end the walk.

Age UK Lancashire had spaces available for the public to sign up for and raise for sponsorship money from family, friends and contacts. To date, the event has raised nearly £ 4,000 for the charity that will help them support vulnerable elderly people across the county.

Sue Watt, one of the walkers, said, “I absolutely loved it! It was tough in places, but with other people’s encouragement, we all made it. I completed all the peaks in 12 hours and 40 minutes and I am so happy to have been there. It feels like a real accomplishment. Supporting the charity means a lot too and I’m glad I was able to do my part and raise money for them. “

Sharon Watson said, “Some hikers found innovative ways to raise funds. One group contacted local businesses and sold sponsorship opportunities on the front of the t-shirts they wore during the challenge. The company’s supporters included TF Automation, UK Extrusion, Air Filtration Solutions, Medical Filtration Solutions. Armitstead Barnett real estate agent, wine supplier Corks Out and Sage & Script personalized gifts and we would like to thank them for their support and donations.

Age UK Lancashire relies on income from fundraising activities and events to enable them to provide services and enable people to connect, stay connected and maintain their independence.

Sharon added, “We have a number of events coming up, including a fashion show and a canoe challenge, and we can also get seats at various running or challenge events if people contact us to show their interest demonstrate. We also publish everything on social media, so it’s worth following us. “
