Lancashire Police Department has decided to commemorate two boys who lost their lives in tragic accidents across the county this year.

George Hinds, 2, died that same month after a gas explosion in a house in Heysham.

Jordan Banks was only 9 years old when he was struck by lightning while playing soccer in Blackpool in May.

Back in June, Lancashire Police held a competition to name one of their new drones.

Posts were received on social media, with the top 10 posts having names like “Cinderella” and “Inspector Gadget”.

Yesterday they announced the winning name “Chase” – and for a special reason.

Chase was the name of George’s favorite Paw Patrol character, and officials deemed it appropriate that the tech be named in his mind.

Another naming was announced this afternoon (July 16), this time in memory of Jordan.

Police horse Fred joined the Lancashire Police force from his former home in West Yorkshire, but officials felt it appropriate that he be renamed “Banks” in his memory.

Jordan was known to touch the hearts of Blackpool officials after leaving candy on police cars to cheer them up.

The naming also follows the tradition of the armed forces to name their newest horses after places in the whole district.

Chief Superintendent Wendy Bower of the Lancashire Police Department’s TacOps team said: “We have now decided to mention ‘Banks’ in memory of Jordan and express our gratitude to him.”

“We hope this will tell Jordan’s family how much we appreciated his kindness last year.”
