A three-day Diesel event is set to roll back to Bury starting today, featuring locomotives from the domestic fleet, including those that have recently been refurbished in traditional British Rail blue.

This year’s Summer Diesel Spectacular will see its usual crowd of Diesel enthusiasts, albeit under strict social distancing guidelines.

Passenger traffic will include all diesel locomotives throughout the event, with three train sets running the entire route between Heywood and Rawtenstall on a shuttle between Bury and Ramsbottom.

Groups of no more than two households with a maximum of eight people in a party are permitted, and passengers are asked to take window seats.

Due to these social distancing measures, capacity is limited on each train, so a limited number of tickets have been made available.

Earlier this month it was confirmed that Thomas the Tank Engine is returning.

An East Lancashire Railway spokesman said, “All we want is for you to have a safe and enjoyable experience and we can achieve this by working together and following the guidelines we set out.”
