According to Lancashire Fire & Rescue Service (LFRS), Simple distractions can wreak havoc on your cooking.

New studies by the LFRS show that around half of all accidental house fires that fire and rescue services visit every year are boiling fires. Most boiling burns were caused by the person being distracted by something in the house, with 119 boiling burns caused by distraction in 2020.

For this reason, LFRS is launching a campaign to raise awareness of the dangers of cooking fires with the message “Stay there and cook it!”

A new campaign by the Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service urges people to “stay there and cook it!” and don’t get distracted while cooking on the stove. New figures show 119 cooking fires in Lancashire were caused by distractions in 2020

Group Manager Kirsty McCreesh, Director of Prevention for the Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service, said, “Our data shows that cooking fires can happen to anyone, reducing and ending injuries.

“There are many simple things people can do to drastically reduce the likelihood of a cooking fire, and that includes sticking to the cooking, not getting distracted, and keeping the hob and surrounding area clean and clear. Make sure you have a working smoke alarm and if a fire does happen, go outside, stay outside and give us a call. “
