Lancashire is home to some truly beautiful properties – but not all of them can be bought for the average wage.

Some areas of the county are more expensive than others, and the average price of a home can be sky high.

Using the Zoopla (real estate website) Zed Index, we found the average price of a home in 23 areas in Lancashire.

This average is calculated from the data on the house price sold and the average price paid for a property.

According to the data, Ormskirk in West Lancashire has the highest average house price; the current figure is £ 295,208.

Some of the more expensive streets in Ormskirk are Back Lane, where the average price for a house is £ 745,000, and Capilano Park, where the average price for a property is £ 570,000.

Not far beyond Ormskirk is Carnforth, where the average house price is £ 281,774.

Clitheroe ranks third with an average house price of £ 281,533.

There are some very expensive streets in Clitheroe including Abbey Road where the average price for a house is a staggering £ 474,000.

However, not every area in Lancashire is quite this expensive.

Zed Index numbers show Nelson is currently the cheapest area in Lancashire to buy a home.

The average price paid for a house is £ 116,338 – over £ 73,000 cheaper than the Lancashire average.

Some streets have very low average house prices, including Alexander Street where the average price is only £ 97,500.

The average price paid on Bank Street, Brierfield is just £ 51,500.

Accrington also had a low average at £ 123,758; some of Accrington’s cheaper streets are Albert Street in Oswaldtwistle (£ 57,000) and Arthur Street in Clayton Le Moors (£ 54,000).

Blackburn ranked 16th on the listing and the average price paid for a home over the past 12 months is £ 155,998.

However, this is still over £ 33,000 cheaper than the average house price in Lancashire.
