As Mary Poppins’ character George Banks famously sang in the 1964 film classic, “Let’s go fly a kite,” it’s an often overlooked activity that can bring so much joy to young and old.
The hobby recently made a group laugh and smile as Sporting Challenge enjoyed two evenings Hang gliding with the support of Smile factor 10 in Lancashire.
Athletic challenge is a charity that helps disabled adults over the age of 18 participate in sports and social activities in West Lancashire.
Many attendees at the event at Beacon Country Park in Skelmersdale, Lancashire, rose kite for the first time.
Founded by Craig and Sue, Smile factor 10 is a group of kite-flying enthusiasts based in the north-west of England.
Everyone had fun at the hang-gliding events
Sporting Challenge is a family-run charity that supports people with learning difficulties.
It aims to offer sporting activities to encourage people with learning disabilities to stay fit and healthy. Common activities include aerobics, bowling, bocce ball, curling, dancing, billiards, walking, and other fitness activities.
They support around 50 people in the West Lancashire region to gain access to a variety of activities by providing transportation to and from their homes and the appropriately trained session workers to assist them in carrying out the activities.
From Easter to November in the UK, Ireland and Europe, Smile factor 10 Fly kites of all shapes and sizes at Northern Kite Group events, kite festivals, music festivals and other family events.
The international kite season starts a little earlier each year in January or February.
They organize too Kite displays and teddy skydiving for events of all sizes including music festivals, food and country festivals, corporate events, car shows, private functions and school celebrations in the north of England.
These two evenings were sponsored by the National Community Lottery Prize with Sporting Challenge also a big thank you to Smile Factor 10 and The National Lottery.
